2025 Porsche Taycan Faces Recall for Rear Camera Display Issue

Porsche Cars North America has announced a recall for a small batch of 2025 Taycan electric vehicles due to non-compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111, which governs rear visibility. The recall addresses an issue where the rearview camera image fails to display within the required two seconds when the vehicle is shifted into reverse.

Rearview Camera Delay Prompts Recall

In August 2024, Porsche AG identified a delay in the rearview camera display for some Taycan models. After reviewing the issue from a regulatory standpoint, the company concluded that vehicles built for the U.S. market needed to be fixed to meet compliance standards. Porsche has since updated the central computer software in all newly produced 2025 Taycans to address the issue.

Free Software Update for Affected Vehicles

For the Taycan EVs affected by this recall, Porsche will provide a software update at no cost to owners. The recall applies to vehicles produced between March 27, 2024, and August 19, 2024, at the Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen plant. Porsche plans to send owner notification letters by November 29, 2024, informing customers of the need to visit a dealership for the update.

How Owners Can Check for the Recall

Taycan owners who wish to verify whether their vehicle is part of the recall can enter their 17-character VIN on Porsche's official website. All impacted vehicles have VINs starting with the letter "W," which historically denoted West Germany.

2025 Porsche Taycan Model Year Updates

Porsche made several key updates for the 2025 Taycan lineup, including faster acceleration, improved charging speeds, and enhanced range. All Taycan models, including the high-performance Turbo GT variant, come equipped with an 800-volt architecture capable of supporting up to 320 kW charging power.

Performance Highlights of the Taycan Turbo GT

At the top of the Taycan range, the Turbo GT showcases Porsche’s pinnacle of performance. Starting at $230,000, this model can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 mph with summer tires. For those opting for the Weissach package, performance improves slightly, with a 2.1-second sprint to 60 mph and a maximum speed of 190 mph. Additionally, the Weissach variant shaved off 157 pounds and holds the current record for the fastest four-door production vehicle around the Nurburgring, lapping the track in just 7 minutes and 7 seconds.
